West Ham 6-0 Wrexham: Nuno's men run riot to return to Championship summit

West Ham stormed back to the top of the Championship table with a 6-0 thrashing of Wrexham at the London Stadium on Friday.

Having been overtaken at the summit by West Brom following the Baggies' 1-0 win at Derby County in midweek, Nuno Espirito Santo's side took ownership of top spot again with no fuss at all, with Wrexham completely outclassed as their three-game unbeaten run came to an end.

Six different players – Jarrod Bowen, Joel Piroe, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Valentin Castellanos, Mohamadou Kante and Manor Solomon – scored as West Ham produced easily their best performance of the season, extending their winning streak to four games.

Bowen went close to putting the Hammers in front in the 15th minute, as his shot cannoned onto the crossbar via a crucial touch from Anthony Patterson, after he was released in behind by Joel Veltman's quick throw.

Piroe also blasted wastefully over the top of the crossbar, but West Ham's dominance finally paid off in the 28th minute, with Bowen getting across Jacques Ekomie to side-foot Morato's centre into the bottom-right corner.

It was 2-0 only eight minutes later, with Ekomie and Callum Doyle both failing to hold the line as Castellanos beat Wrexham's offside trap and teed up Piroe for a first-time finish.

Nuno's side had further breathing room three minutes into the second half as Mavropanos' downward header from a Bowen corner squirmed past Patterson, and it was 4-0 just past the hour as Castellanos stroked home left-footed, following a glorious counter led by Kyle Walker-Peters. 

Things got worse for Phil Parkinson's visitors when Kante finished with aplomb from Solomon's pass over the top, and the winger got a goal of his own with eight minutes of regulation time remaining, finishing via the post following another Walker-Peters assist.

Goal-happy Hammers flying high 

As recently as September 1, West Ham were still winless for the 2026-27 Championship season and Nuno was facing stern criticism from some quarters.

But a 4-2 victory over fellow promotion favourites Wolves kickstarted the Irons' campaign, and they have plundered 16 goals during their four-game winning streak.

It is the first time they have won four straight league games since November 2021, when they did so as a Premier League club, and this was their most comprehensive victory yet.

West Ham put up 2.51 expected goals from 19 shots, compared to Wrexham's eight attempts and 0.39 xG. 

Bowen was restricted to just one goal in the rout, taking him to four for the season, but he also showed his creative nous by laying on five chances for team-mates, a team-high figure that lifted him to 23 for the campaign – the most by anyone in the Championship.

Bowen also registered one assist, and his seven goal involvements in the Championship this season are also now the outright most of any player, inching ahead of West Brom's Jimmy-Jay Morgan (six).
